Dutch’s Spirits distillery in Pine Plains, New York is commemorating blues icon Johnny Winter with a new, small batch moonshine. Johnny Winter's Mean Town Moonshine is pot-distilled, using pure cane sugar and the spring-fed waters of Harvest Homestead Farm, where bootlegging legend Dutch Schultz ran a gigantic operation in the 1930s.
Mean Town has been described as “smooth and clean, with a slight roughness around the edges, mirroring the blues of Johnny.”
The Legend of Dutch Schultz – Just after dusk on Monday October
17, 1932 federal agents set up Harvest Homestead Farm in Pine
Plains, NY. There, they uncovered a gigantic bootlegging operation
- a massive underground concrete bunker containing two - 2000
gallon stills, 10,000 pounds of sugar, and 1000 gallons of Sugar
Wash Moonshine. A sprawling network of interconnected
tunnels spread throughout the property making it "one of the
most extensive and elaborate layouts ever found."
Legend has it that the notorious New York City bootlegger
Dutch Schultz was the mastermind and financier of the
operation. In 2014 two legends come together over the creation
of "Johnny Winter's Mean Town Moonshine." Pot-distilled using
pure cane sugar and the same spring-fed waters of Harvest
Homestead Farm, you'll find our Mean Town Moonshine to be
smooth and clean, with just a slight roughness around the edges,
mirroring the blues Johnny became famous for. The true spirit of The Blues.
