The Macallan Edition No. 1
The Macallan Edition No.1 is the debut of a new limited edition series to be released annually, for which a unique selection of oak casks will be identified to yield a new Macallan expression each year. Edition No.1 celebrates The Macallan’s unparalleled oak cask management policy that oversees the entire process from oak source to finished seasoned cask. This expression is matured in eight distinct European and American oak cask styles as personally selected by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Bob Dalgarno, to create a rich and truly multi-dimensional whisky.
Men's Journal List of Scotch to Buy Before its Gone
Official Word: This new Macallan release is the first in a regular collection of limited edition bottles. The focus is on what the individual casks are that make up the batch, not the final age.
Word on the Street: It's a low price point for Macallan and a good whisky. It doesn't compare to the 50-year-old sherry oak iterations you'd pay tens of thousands for, but if you can afford that they're probably throwing this bottle in for free. If not, it's still worth buying, and fairly easy to find at the moment.
Final Word: We get every piece of the puzzle from a dram of this new single malt, including cereal grain notes, as well as vanilla, floral notes, and orange zest from the variety of oak casks. It's all over the place in a tasty, controlled chaos sort of way.
